From the Sandbar to the Alamo by Danum Skald
From the Sandbar to the Alamo
A neutral island on a wide sandy shoal,
In the Mississippi River 2 of 12 men will fall.
Allegations of vote-fixing, gave rivals hatred fuel,
Mixed in with bad notes, the only solution to duel.
Dr.Thomas H. Maddox vs Samuel Wells,
On the 19th of September, who's life expels.
2 shots, 4 shots, settled by formal handshake,
As for remaining partisans more honour was at stake,
Cuny fired at Crain, Cuny died, and Bowie hit,
Bowie raised, pulled his knife, blood thirsty with grit.
An animalistic rage taking club, shot and sword cane,
How Bowie killed Wright, made the knife a household name.
Taking one more pistol shot, head-to-toe in battle sweat,
After 90 seconds of bloodshed no more would be a threat.
Though the duelists survived, two men had found death,
Bowie’s journey hadn't ended- he learned a shibboleth.
Now a fraternal brethren of the craft, Alamo 44,
In his search for San Saba added more folklore.
As Texas revolted, a Colonel he was made,
Three victories won a soldier’s heart never afraid,
Bowie vs Santa Anna, a grueling twelve and one days,
Buckskins fight the shakos, in muskets din fray.
Bowie sick with white plague, confined to his bed,
Though fought bravely, shot and bayonet left him dead.
