Poems: Mark Jodon
Mark Jodon is the author of Miles of Silence from Kelsay Books among other fine works.
Awake at 4:30 AM
Long silence before the first bird's cry.On the edge of the bed that could have been
a park bench, a stranger I don’t recall
meeting sits next to me.
More long silence. I whisper
silence can feel like many miles.
I share what's in my bag, deep secrets
easier to say in darkness than in light.
But the darkness and light are both good,
she says after some time. Soon
morning comes and somehow,
we have become lovers.
Otherwise Light
The light keeps coming.
The light by which I see,
by which I see how you see.
The light which darkness
cannot overcome cannot
be eliminated cannot
be destroyed. True light.
Hold on to the light
that is neither good nor otherwise,
neither bad nor otherwise:
the otherwise light.
Be the tension of light.
Be the in between light.
Be held together by light.
Spread out the light:
come, eat this light.
The table is open
to everyone.
